Brief History

 


In the year 1940, before World War II broke out, this was the time when the first settlers arrived to settle in Marbel. A school was opened for their children named Marbel Elementary School with three teachers and the building was made of wood and cogon. During the school has eight (8) hectares school site. Extended to South Cotabato Division Office which include the South Cotabato Sports Complex. The school was located at the heart of Marbel (the old name of Koronadal).

During the war, the buildings were used by the Japanese soldiers as garrison. Mr. Gervacio Antipolo an overseer of the settlers together with the seventeen civilians were massacred by the Japanese soldiers on November 24, 1942 and buried in the school site. The graveyard was maintained up to the present as a Historical Spot of the City of Koronadal.

After the war, the School was again opened for the pupils. The settlers build buildings made of wood and cogon. Sometimes classes were held under the trees and other in private houses because there were no enough classrooms.

In 1948, the municipality of Koronadal was born and the name of school became Koronadal Elementary School and later changed to Koronadal Pilot Elementary School in 1960’s.

Koronadal Pilot Elementary School was the first school in South Cotabato Division to handle the fast learners which started in 1970’s.

In the year 1971, the school was renamed as Koronadal Central Elementary School. In 1983, SPED classes was opened for the hearing impaired and visually impaired pupils.

In 1991, the school was divided into two, the Koronadal Central Elementary School 1 and the Koronadal Central Elementary School 2.

In 1993, a Memorandum of Agreement between the Governor Hilario De Pedro III and the School Principal Estelita Espongja appropriating an area for the construction of the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. Two hectares were left to the Koronadal Central Elementary School 1 as a school site.

In 1999, the school became the SPED center of the division.

In 2006, Special Science Education School (SSES) was opened. The SSES offers Science and Health curriculum from Grade I-VI.
